Nakayoshi Young Professionals is a group of young professionals, recent college grads, and in general any young adults in the San Francisco Bay Area looking to get involved or reconnected with the Japanese American and Asian Pacific American community. Social Event: 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors

Nakayoshi is joining the San Francisco Japanese American Citizen’s League and going to see the comedy group 18 Mighty Mountain Warriors.  The Mighty Mountain Warriors have 20 years of sketch comedy experience and are back on tour.

  • When: Saturday February 28th 8pm
  • Why: For some excellent laughs.

Nakayoshi is gearing up for the NBA season! We purchased tickets to this year’s Asian Heritage Night which will be held on Wed. January 7, 2015. The Warriors take on the Indiana Pacers.

When: Jan 7, 2015 – Tipoff at 7:30pm

Our seats are located in Section 222. Tickets are $27/each and include a voucher for the commemorative Asian Heritage Night giveaway item.

It has come to Nakayoshi core’s attention that we have a gender imbalance on our hands, with women being underrepresented in our membership and our core.
Therefore, your *fabulous* female core members would like to put on some WOMEN ONLY events so we can get to know each other and start the dialogue: what would make Nakayoshi more appealing to you?

September 2014 Social Event: Game Night with Nakayoshi!

Hi Nakayoshi Young Professionals,

Nakayoshi will be hosting our Game Night this year on Saturday, September 13th 2014 at the Japanese American Citizens League Headquarter in San Francisco! Get ready for a night full of laughs and competition over board games, card games and more!

Annual Camping Trip – Labor Day Weekend

Join Nakayoshi for our Annual Camping Trip!

Glorious adventures await when we go camping, events include, but are not limited to:

  •  Daytime hikes across the coast
  •  Exploration of Pygmy forests
  •  Card games
  •  Smores
  •  Campfire cooking with Cast Iron Cookware
  •  Nightime hikes
  •  Ghost stories
  •  Jokes galore

This will be a great opportunity to bond with your fellow Nakayoshi members, have deep and casual conversations that span from local events, social changes, and all the best jokes you might know.  And food is included too! We’ll be providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Sunday along with breakfast on Monday.

When? August 30th to September 1st (Labor Day Weekend)

Where? Salt Point State Park

Who? YOU!

To register, please fill out our registration form and follow all instructions.  Registration costs $50 and is limited to the first 16 people to sign up.  After registration, you’ll be updated on what to bring and how we’ll all be getting there.  Typically, we organize carpools with everyone going.  At a minimum, be prepared to bring a sleeping bag, several changes of clothes, and some dishware.  If possible, tents, games, and surplus supplies are always appreciated.

* The event will take place in Golden Gate Park, at Hellman Hollow area. Hellman Hollow stretches out along the south side of John F. Kennedy Drive – just west of Transverse Drive (off of 25th Avenue). Free parking for Speedway Meadow is found along JFK Drive. However, cars are not permitted on the street east of Crossover Drive on Sundays.

“Story Art of Camp” at Films of Remembrance

Nakayoshi Young Professionals will be co-presenting the “Story Art of Camp” block of films at Films of Remembrance happening on Sunday, February 23rd at New People Cinemas in SF’s Japan Town (at 5 p.m.).  SJSU student Michelle Ikemoto’s animation entitled “Tule Lake”; Keiko Wright’s Student Academy Award winning film “Hiro” that explores her grandfather’s experience of incarceration; and Amy Uyeki’s animated film, “Searchlight Serenade:  Big Band Music in the WWII Japanese American Incarceration Camps”, which became part of another presented film, will be featured in the lineup.  In addition, “Honor and Sacrifice:  The Roy Matsumoto Story” (member of Merrill’s Marauders) and “The Untold Story:  Japanese American Internment in Hawai’i” will be shown.

We’re in the month of November and Thanksgiving is just around the corner!  Come join Nakayoshi Young Professionals for an evening of fun and excitement at our upcoming Thanksgiving-themed Game/Potluck event known as “Gobble, Games, and Grub” on Saturday, November 23rd from 6-10 p.m. at the JACL Headquarters in San Francisco’s Japantown (1765 Sutter st., 94115).
